Ucargo would like to provide you with an important update regarding recent developments in U.S. trade policy that may impact upcoming shipments. On April 2, the White House announced the introduction of a global 10% tariff, which is expected to come into effect on April 5. Additionally, a set of reciprocal tariffs based on the country of origin is scheduled to begin on April 9. The final rule outlining the full scope of these changes is currently pending publication in the Federal Register. At this stage, it is understood that goods will be subject to either the global tariff or the reciprocal tariff—not both. Furthermore, commodities already covered under existing Section 232 tariffs are expected to be exempt from these new measures. We are also awaiting clarification on the applicability of the in-transit exemption, which may apply to shipments that are already en-route and “loaded on the final mode.” Whether this refers to the port of origin or a subsequent transshipment point is yet to be confirmed. We are closely monitoring official updates and will continue to assess how these changes may affect our services and your supply chain. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available. If you have any specific concerns regarding current or upcoming shipments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your account manager or our customer service team.
