As a prime project specialist for the amusements industry, we thrive on complex logistical challenges. One such opportunity arose when we were tasked with transporting a cinematic motion simulator—built into a train carriage—from just south of Cologne, Germany, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

From the outset, we worked closely with the manufacturer to establish the safest lifting practices for the simulator. This included adjusting design elements to ensure optimal lashing points for transit. Once these were confirmed, we communicated the specific handling requirements to the crane operators, port authorities, and shipping lines, ensuring each party utilised the correct lifting methods for their respective equipment.

Coordinating with the haulier was essential in determining the most suitable transport configuration. We secured the necessary road permits and arranged escort vehicles, ensuring compliance with transportation regulations. Given the simulator’s size, careful planning was required for night-time movement, including strategic placement of load-bearing materials to widen the turning circle when exiting the manufacturer’s premises onto the main road.

At the port, a further lifting operation was conducted before the vessel’s arrival, ensuring a seamless transition from road transport to ocean freight. Once the simulator reached the port, our team oversaw the final lift onto the vessel, where it was securely lashed onto a bed of flat racks, ready for its journey to Saudi Arabia.

Despite strong wrapping and protective nets applied by the shipper, adverse weather conditions threatened to compromise the integrity of the cargo. With only hours to spare, our team acted swiftly, reinforcing the wrapping to maintain its protection and ensure the shipment remained secure throughout transport.

Through meticulous planning and seamless coordination, we successfully executed multiple lifts and transport stages, ensuring the cargo arrived on time and in perfect condition. Once in Jeddah, the simulator was delivered to its new owners, marking another successful project in our portfolio of specialist amusement industry logistics.
