Ucargo secured this contract in April 2023; to transport a container handler from Kuwait to Japan for the US military. Despite being awarded in April, the project experienced delays due to Kuwait’s stringent documentation requirements. Originally planned for a Roro vessel, the team had to adapt to a global shortage of vessels, (exacerbated by knock on COVID disruptions and other global issues). Although US flag service was preferred, it was unavailable for this specific route. The team overcame these challenges by part-chartering a vessel into Kuwait, navigating complexities in cargo loading.

The cargo reached Yokohama at the end of September 2023. However, a discrepancy in the quoted final delivery point required costings to be reworked and revised transport options to be figured out.  Opting to barge the cargo from Yokohama to the new destination*tbc, the project, initially estimated to take 30-50 days, extended to just over 8 months.

While the project’s complexity lay in routing intricacies, particularly due to the container handler’s hydraulic parts and pipes, Ucargo maintained a strong presence in both the Kuwait port and the barge in Japan.

This case showcases Ucargo’s adaptability, problem-solving prowess, and commitment to precise and reliable defence industry logistics amid dynamic global challenges.
