Women Who Keep the World Moving: Stories from UCARGO

Logistics is an industry that thrives on problem-solving, adaptability, and innovation. Traditionally seen as a male-dominated field, the landscape is evolving—women are making significant contributions at every level, from operations to sales, management, and marketing.

At UCARGO, 70% of our workforce is female, and their expertise, leadership, and dedication play a crucial role in keeping global supply chains moving. To mark International Women’s Day, we spoke with three members of our team about their journeys into logistics, the challenges they’ve faced, and their advice for women entering the industry.

Chloe Broadway – Sales & Business Development

From Retail to Freight: A Career Pivot
Chloe’s journey into logistics wasn’t a traditional one. After working in retail as a store manager, she sought a career change during COVID. Coming from a family with strong ties to the logistics industry, she was drawn to the dynamic nature of freight forwarding.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the manager who hired me in my first role. They recognized that my skills were transferable, and that opportunity allowed me to grow in a whole new industry.”

Challenges & Lessons Learned
Chloe’s introduction to logistics was anything but slow-paced—she started during the infamous Evergreen crisis, when a container ship blocked the Suez Canal.

“The ever-changing nature of logistics keeps you on your toes. From day one, I learned that creative problem-solving and clear communication are essential to overcoming challenges.”

Advice for Women in Logistics
“Always ask the question! There’s so much to learn, and the best way to grow is by surrounding yourself with great colleagues and mentors.”

Jackie Goodman – General Manager of Operations

A Career That Started by Chance
Jackie’s entry into the industry was, in her words, “pure accident.” After responding to a job advert, she found herself in a role that quickly became a lifelong career.

“On my first day, my manager asked me to open a file for Willemstad. I misheard and thought she said ‘William’s dad’—you can imagine the reaction! Needless to say, my geography has improved since then.”

Tackling Challenges Head-On
Jackie has built her career on problem-solving, believing that logistics is an industry of constant challenges, but it’s how you solve them that makes you stand out.

Women in Logistics: Then & Now
Having spent over 25 years in the industry, Jackie has seen enormous shifts.

“When I started, freight clubs didn’t even allow women. That’s changed now, and I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world—including a remote island in Alaska! It’s been an incredible journey, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Tasnima Khatum – Operations Executive

From Apprentice to Expert
Tasnima entered logistics as an apprentice, quickly realising the industry’s potential for continuous learning and development.

“Freight forwarding presents endless opportunities to expand your knowledge. Every challenge brings new lessons.”

Facing Challenges with Confidence
The unpredictable nature of logistics means unexpected hurdles can arise at any time, but Tasnima takes them in stride.

“There will always be obstacles, but with the right approach, they can be resolved before they impact customers.”

Advice for Women in Logistics
“Never be intimidated! It might seem daunting at first, but I’ve seen women excel in this industry, proving time and time again that success has no gender.”

Looking to the Future

At UCARGO, we know that logistics is about more than moving goods—it’s about the people who make it happen. We’re proud to have a team where women are leading, innovating, and driving change in an industry that never stands still.

To all the women in logistics—past, present, and future—we celebrate you.
